Helena (Melo) Nogueira, 70, of New Bedford died December 8, 2008 at home after a long courageous battle with cancer surrounded by family and loved ones.
She was the wife of Carlos Nogueira.
Born in Vila Do Porto, Santa Maria, Açores, the daughter of the late Manuel Tavares Melo and Maria Das Dores (Raposo) Melo, she has lived in New Bedford since 1970.
Mrs. Nogueira was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church.
She was formerly employed by Colonial Textile and Grinell Pajamas for many years until retirement.
Mrs. Nogueira enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband; 6 children, Norberto Melo and his wife Linda, Margarida Melo, Armando Melo, Rui DeMelo and his wife June, Shelly Nogueira and Jeffrey Nogueira; 4 brothers, Jose Melo, João Melo, Antonio Tavares and Jaime Melo; 11 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford Saturday, December 13th at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours Friday, December 12th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
