Garrett A. O’Doherty 69, of 35 Brownell St. died Tuesday (April 29) at St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center, after an illness.
His wife of 26 years, Sheila M. (Smith) O’Doherty died in 1998. He leaves a son, Sean A. O'Doherty of Worcester, three brothers, Martin J. O’Doherty of Worcester, Stephen C. O’Doherty of County Clare, Ireland, and Monsignor Jude O’Doherty of Miami, FL, two sisters, Mary P. O’Doherty of Leicester and Elizabeth A. Dalton of County Wicklow, Ireland, one granddaughter and several nephews and nieces. He was born in County Clare, Ireland, son of Charles and Mary (Cahill) O’Doherty. He attended school in Ireland and came to Worcester in 1966.
He was a union mason for many years before retiring.
He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, the Knights of Columbus, Alhambra Council #88 and the Local #6 Bricklayers Union.
A Funeral will be held Monday (May 5) from Fay Brothers Funeral Home 9 Hammond St. (www.faybrothers.com) with a Mass at 10a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church 555 Pleasant St. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling Hours will be Sunday (May 4) from 5 to 8 p.m at the funeral home.
