Obituary

BOURNE__ Anthony C. “Charlie” Tankievich, 90, of Monument Beach, Bourne, died Tuesday, December 2, 2008 in his home. His wife of 40 years, Stella J. (Molduk) Tankievich died in 1982.
He leaves a nephew, Peter Tankis of Uxbridge; three nieces, Linda Desrosiers of Sutton; Elaine Macoy of Bethel, CT., and Diane Kaminski of Oxford; a god-daughter, Lorraine Starr of Worcester and great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary. A. Tankis and two brothers, Vitty and Joseph Tankievich. He was born in Worcester, a son of Anthony and Katherine (Jerusavich) Tankievich and lived there until 1982 when he moved to Bourne.
“Charlie” was a postal clerk with the U.S. Postal Service for 12 years prior to retiring in 1982. He previously worked at the Boston Navy Shipyard, the Worcester School Department and also owned the former Tankievich Red & White Market on Sterling St. in Worcester. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, serving on the battleships, USS Texas and USS New York. He attended Worcester Boy’s Trade High School. He was a former member of Our Lady of Vilna Church and St. Casimir Church. He was also a former member of the Lithuanian Social Club, Lithuanian War Veterans Organization, a past president of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees #1279 and the Worcester Surf Casters Club. He was a longtime volunteer for the Council on Aging in Bourne and for 49 years was both a member and sponsor for AA.
The funeral will be held on Friday, December 5, from HENRY - DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward St. Worcester, with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Casimir Church, 41 Providence St., Worcester. Entombment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum, Worcester. Calling hours in the funeral home will be Thursday, December 4, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
