Obituary


NEW BEDFORD — Ralph E. Isherwood Sr. age 84 years, of New Bedford, died at home on Monday, December 1, 2008. He was the husband of Althea (Bennett) Isherwood.

Born in this city, he was the son of the late Ralph Raymond and Caroline (Greenup) Isherwood and lived in this community all of his life.

A member of the North Baptist Church he served as a Deacon for many years, was a Sunday School teacher and secretary of Boy Scout Troop #2. Mr. Isherwood worked for 47 years for the former J.C. Rhodes PCI Company as a machinist until his retirement. He especially enjoyed camping and the company of his pet dog Patty Cake.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons-Ralph E. Jr. and his fiancee Deann Kucharski of NB, Randy and his wife Brenda of Fall River, and Lyle and his wife Tammy of Acushnet, his daughters-Doris MacDonald and her husband Jerry of Taunton and Nora King and her husband Stephen of Fairhaven, twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren, two nieces and one nephew. One of his grandchildren predeceased him.

A veteran of World War II he served in the U.S. Army and was recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Victory Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.

His visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 3, 2008, from 4-7 P.M. in the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., NB, with services on Thursday at the funeral home at 10 A.M. Burial is in Acushnet Cemetery. It is suggested remembrances be made in his name to the New England Chapter of FSMA (Families Fighting Spinal Muscular Atrophy), P.O. Box 2902, Woburn, MA 01888
