AUBURN

Joseph P. O’Coin, 81, of Auburn died Sun., Nov 30 in UMASS Memorial Hospital.
He leaves his wife of 54 years, Jane A. (Hurley) O’Coin; three children, Patricia K. Silvey and her husband Ronald of Glastonbury, CT, Joseph P. O’Coin, Jr. of Auburn and Terence P. O’Coin and his wife Mary of Sturbridge; a brother, Jack O’Coin of Grafton; three sisters, Kathleen “Tootie” Brodeur of Worcester, Margaret Pappas and her husband Angelo of Worcester and Virginia Ford of Paxton; three grandchildren, Maryjane Silvey, Charles and Emma O’Coin and a sister-in-law, Eleanor O'Coin of Worcester. A brother, Robert O’Coin and two sisters, Mary Binienda and Ann McGrail, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Edward M. and Kathleen (Mahoney) O’Coin and graduated from St. Peter’s High School and St. Francis University and was a Staff Sergeant in the US Army, serving in the Philippines during WWII.
Joseph was a sales manager at New England Telephone Co. for 33 years, he also worked in the sales department at O’Coin’s Store in Worcester. He was a member of St. Peter’s Church, the Catholic Alumni Sodality of Our Lady at the College of the Holy Cross, the Saint Francis University Alumni Sodality, the Knights of Columbus Alhambra Council #88, the Main South American Legion Post #341,and the New England Telephone Pioneers of America.
The funeral will be held Wed., Dec. 3, from Callahan & Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St. with a Mass at 11 AM in St. Peter’s Church. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Visiting Hours are Tues., Dec. 2, from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to, the Auburn District Nurses Assoc., 191 Pakachoag St., Auburn, 01501.
