Obituary

Helen U. Asquith, 95, Clarksville, died Wednesday, November 26, 2008, at Gateway Medical Center. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, 124 Kings Hwy E, Haddonfield, NJ with Reverend Dr. Michael Feicht officiating. Burial will be in First Baptist Church Cemetery in Haddonfield.. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Monday at the church. Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. She was born in Haddonfield, NJ, on March 15, 1913, daughter of the late Americus R. and Anna Underdown, Jr of Haddonfield. She was predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Dr. Glenn H. Asquith, Sr. in February of this year. She is also predeceased by a brother, Americus R. Underdown, III in 1966. She is survived by daughters Nancy Asquith of Dover, TN and Helen Lawrence of Media, PA; a son, Dr. Glenn H. Asquith, Jr and his wife Connie, of Macungie, PA; and four grandchildren. As a young adult, Helen was very active in athletics and excelled in the sports of swimming, field hockey, and horseback riding. Helen is also remembered for her musical skills, having studied music at Eastern Baptist College in Philadelphia, PA. She served as organist at First Presbyterian Church of Haddonfield and also was pianist and organist at many weddings and funerals led by her husband in several locations. She was a loving and faithful wife, mother, and homemaker, who brightened any situation with her sense of humor. She inspired others with the quiet practice of her faith, and she provided comfort and hospitality for her family as well as many parishioners in the churches served by her husband in Manayunk (Philidelphia) PA, Salem, NJ, Westerly, RI, Hartford, CT, Lowell, MA, and Montclair, NJ. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be given to the American Cancer Society, 2008 Charlotte Avenue, Nashville, TN 37203-2003 or to First Baptist Church, 124 Kings Highway E, Haddonfield, NJ 08033.
