Obituary

Joy C. Allen, 50, of Worcester died Sunday, November 23, 2008 at Radius Health Care Center in Worcester from complications with cancer. Born May 6, 1958 in Worcester, she was the daughter of the late Grace M. (Hardie) and William A. Allen. Joy attended Burncoat Sr. High School and lived in Worcester and Auburn most of her life. During her working years, she was a nurse’s aide and personal care attendant. She grew up as an active member of the Adams Square Congregational Church.

Joy is survived and will be dearly missed by her sisters Merrie Allen of Portland, Maine and Beth Allen of Worcester, and her brother Brian Allen and his life partner, Gail Angell of West Boylston, and extended family and friends, and especially her best friend, Michael Meattey. Her family and friends would want you to know that Joy fought to live, was courageous and brave everyday with humor, grit, and determination, against all odds. She was a people-person who enjoyed music and the radio always, connecting and networking with people wherever she went.

Joy was predeceased by her paternal grandmother, Nellie Mae Allen and her maternal grandmother, Christina M. Hardie.

There will be a private celebration of her life with family and friends and a private memorial service with family. Joy’s family wishes to express eternal heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate and dedicated staff and those friends who cared about Joy through Community Health Link.
