Obituary

James S. Fleming 79, a Needham resident for over 52 years died on Sunday November 23rd at his home. Born Boston Mr. Fleming grew up in Brookline. He graduated from Roxbury Latin in 1948 and Harvard University in 1952. During the Korean War he joined the United States Marines Corps. Mr. Fleming was wounded in Korea on April 19, 1953. He was awarded the Purple Heart and continued his service until 1956 discharged at the rank of First Lieutenant. After the War he went to work for the American Can Company in Needham as a Sales Representative, Jim was with the company for 32 years before his retirement in 1989. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed golf and will always be remembered for his love of family. Jim was the loving husband for 56 years of Carson (Barnes). Loving father of Charlotte Culgin and her husband Ronald of Needham, Catherine Pearson and her husband Stephen of Mt. Airy, MD, James E. Fleming and his wife Mary Anne of Hopkinton, Stephen Fleming and his wife Penelope of York, SC, Carson Ann Hire and husband Philip of Millis, Peggy Strakosch and her husband Greg of Needham, and Robert W. Fleming and his wife Pamela of Midlothian, VA. Jim also leaves his 16 dear grandchildren and companions Irene and Brian Callender. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Bartholomew Church on Wednesday November 26rd at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting hours at the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Ave Needham on Tuesday from 4-8 PM. Interment with Military Honors will take place in the Mass. National Cemetery in Bourne.
