Joseph Ralph Ellis, 76, of Brookfield died Saturday, November 22, 2008 at Tift Regional Medical Center. According to his wishes, Mr. Ellis will be cremated and will a private ceremony at a later date.
Mr. Ellis was born on February 24, 1932 and was the son of Thad and Bessie Hughes Ellis, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Frances McKinney Ellis. He was raised in the North Georgia Mountains by his uncle General and Aunt (Mama) Cora Hughes, who had 13 children of their own.
He was of the Baptist faith and dearly loved the Lord, whom he has gone to be with. A very hard worker, he worked at J. P. Stevens, Eaton Corporation, Tifton Textiles and Tifton Aluminum Company. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He was also an avid gardener. He would work in his garden for hours and hours. He also loved to just walk through the woods and be among nature.
Mr. Ellis is survived by a son, Mike Ellis of Brookfield and several nieces and nephews, who reside locally, and many from North Georgia.
