Obituary

Lamar Thomas, 77, of Ocilla, Georgia died Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at the Irwin County Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Friday, November 21 at the Ocilla Church Of God with Rev. Clayton Dowd and Rev. Verbileene Williamson officiating. Interment will follow in the Thomas Family Cemetery in Irwin County. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Thursday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Mr. Thomas was born December 16, 1930 in Irwin County to the late T.G. and Lottie Lucile Bales Thomas. He lived in the community all of his life. Mr. Thomas was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War era. He was a farmer and sold produce. Mr. Thomas was an avid hunter, fisherman, trapper and enjoyed playing the piano and the guitar. He was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife of 50 years, Helen S. Thomas of Ocilla; children, Drew Thomas, Stevie Thomas and Joe Thomas all of Ocilla, Billy Rodgers and Linda Belle (Bob) Youngblood both of Fitzgerald, Glenda (Bobby) Williamson of Ocilla, Amy (Chuck) Goins of TyTy, Vickie Thomas of Enigma and Marlene Mykytka of Ocilla; 25 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; brother, George Thomas of McRae; sisters, Mary Grace Hayes of Tifton and Marlene Lloyd of Statesboro as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Franklin Thomas.
