Obituary

Cleo Evans, 91, of Fitzgerald, Georgia died Saturday, November 8, 2008 at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald.

Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Wednesday, November 12 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Fisher and Minister Brenda Lundy officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Evans was born August 6, 1917 in Carroll County to the late John Malcolm and Emma Brock Evans. He lived in the community most of his life. Mr. Evans was a former employee of Paulk Funeral Home and a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps. He served for four years as a medic in India and Burma among other places. Mr. Evans, along with his wife, owned and operated Evans Grocery for 38 years. His doors were always open to all members of the community. He was known for his graciousness and generosity, even extending credit to those who otherwise could not afford to feed their families. He was a devoted husband and father. He cared for his wife of 67 years in their own home up until her death in July. He was a member of Arbor Baptist Church.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: Keith and Tammy Evans of Snellville; two granddaughters: Brittany Evans and Alexis Evans, both of Snellville; one brother and sister-in-law: Wiley & Charlene Evans of Fitzgerald as well as numerous nieces and nephews. His wife, Lola DeFore Evans, preceded him in death as well as twelve brothers and sisters.
