Dessie Lee Skaggs Montelonga, 88, of Tifton passed away Thursday, August 11, 2005, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 15, 2005, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Roger Tucker officiating. Ms. Montelonga was laid to rest at Lawrence Cemetery.
Steven Skaggs, Michael Sivalia, Rudy Skaggs, Monty Skaggs, Pete Skaggs and Chris Skaggs served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Vanceville Congregational Christian Church.
Born May 2, 1917, in Grayson County, Mrs. Montelonga was the daughter of the late Berthal Skaggs and Mary Tucker Skaggs. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Ellard "Sid" Skaggs and Monty L. Skaggs, Sr.' one daughter, Doreatha "Dee" Hobbs' one brother, Arnold Skaggs' and one sister, Mary Hatfield. She was a homemaker; and she was a member of Vanceville Congregational Christian Church. She had been a resident of Tifton for 29 1/2 years.
Mrs. Montelonga is survived by her husband, Peter Montelonga of Tifton' one son, Dolph "Sam" Skaggs of Enigma' one daughter, Rozella Roust of Keyes, Oklahoma; 23 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren.
