Obituary

John W. "John V." Vanderhoof, 86, of 1075 Main Street died Wednesday, Nov. 5 in St. Vincent Hospital after an illness.
He leaves two sons Michael Vanderhoof of Southwick and Robert Vanderhoof and his wife Barbara of Newport, R.I., a daughter Jane M. Hanlon and her husband Paul of Leicester, two brothers Bert Vanderhoof of Sturbridge and Fred Vanderhoof of Canada, two sisters Helen Inman of Mountain Top, PA and Doris Gordon of Princeton, 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, his former daughter-in-law Mary Vanderhoof of Sturbridge. He is predeceased by three sisters Shirley Booth, Margaret Olsen and Jackie Peterson.
John was born in Marlborough, son of John W. and Helen M. (Walsh) Vanderhoof, Sr.. He was a security guard for several years at Digital Corp. retiring in 1987. He served in the United States Army during WW II in Africa and Italy. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade and UMass Boston. He was a longtime alcoholism councilor. He was a member of friends of Bill W. for 40 years, a lifetime member of the D.A.V., a member of the Cherry Valley American Legion Post 443, the Knights of Columbus Council 4528 , Hemlock Country Club in Sturbridge and Our Lady of the Angels Church. He was an avid golfer.
The funeral will be held Monday, Nov. 10 from MORIN-MORRISON FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main Street, Leicester with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street, Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are from 1:00-3:00 PM Sunday. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
