Althea M. (Powell) Sylvia Johnson, 87, of New Bedford died Tuesday November 4, 2008. She was the wife of the late Charles C. Johnson and Edward F. Sylvia, Jr.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late George Powell and Mary Victoria (Sylvia) Rapoza, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
Mrs. Johnson dedicated her life to caring for her daughter Charlene.
Survivors include two daughters, Ann Neves and Cheryl M. Lamb-Spooner and her husband James all of New Bedford; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
She was the mother of the late Mary Ann Sylvia, Charlene J. Johnson, Barbara C. Thomas, and Judith K. Pereira, and sister of the late Richard Sylvia.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
