Shingler W. Owens, Sr., 91, of Dry Branch died October 30 at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 P.M. Sunday, November 2 in Tabernacle Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Walls officiating. Interment will be held at 4 P.M. in Arp cemetery, Fitzgerald.
Mr. Owens was born in Turner County to the late Joshua and Eva Hays Owens. He was the grandson of the late Joshua and Cathy Gibbs Owens and the great grandson of the late Micajah and Mary Ann Story. He lived in the Dry Branch community for the past 32 years. He was a retired body shop operator, a farmer and a beekeeper. Mr. Owens was a member and deacon at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Cochran. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Lorell Owens, Son, Woody (Nancy) Owens; daughter, Yuevonne Lansinger; son Jerry (Angie) Owens; grandchildren, Shawn (Barbara) Lane, Shanon (Jennifer) Lane, Cliff Owens, Joshua (Amber) Owens, Amanda (Robert) Farmer; great grandchildren, Andrew Lane and Stella Lane; special friend and caregiver, Ollie Stephens. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Dan, Ashley, John, Alfred, Joe, Bryant and Coy; sister, Ruth, Camilla, Willie, Katie, Maggie, Datie Mae and Inez.
