Obituary

John F. J. Fullerton, 87, a lifelong resident of Stoughton, died Wednesday, October 29 at the Blue Hills Alzheimer’s Care Center in Stoughton, after a period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Doris F. (MacDonald) Fullerton. Born and raised in Stoughton, he was a graduate of Stoughton Schools and Wentworth Institute in Boston. He was a WWII Veteran of the US Army Air Corps, serving in India, Burma and China.

Mr. Fullerton worked in the linotype business for over 40 years at Wrightson Typographers in Boston. He was the Shop Steward of the Typographical Union Local 13 in Boston for many of those years. Mr. Fullerton was very active in Stoughton. He served on the board of the Stoughton Housing Authority from its inception and also on the board of the Stoughton Council on Aging. He was Chairman of the Board of both boards for many years. A Town Meeting Representative, Mr. Fullerton also served on the School Building Committee that oversaw the construction of the Hansen, Dawe and South Schools. He also was a real estate broker for over 30 years. John loved the town of Stoughton and would do whatever it took to make it better. A communicant of St. James Church, he was a Eucharistic Minister. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, traveling, woodworking, dancing, bike riding and painting.

He is survived by his children, Donna M. Johnson and her husband Dennis of Stoughton, Judith E. Wood and her husband James of Medway, John F. Fullerton and his wife Debra of Mansfield and Irene Bailey of NH. He was the brother of Mary H. Comstock of Easton and the late Paul M. Fullerton. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Monday, November 3 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. James Church, Stoughton at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Sunday 2-5 PM. Donations in John’s name may be made to Alzheimer’s Assn, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, 02472 or to Blue Hills Alzheimer’s Care Center Activities Dept, 1044 Park St., Stoughton, 02072. Burial will follow at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
