Thelma Miller, 93, formerly of 405 Elm St. died April 15, 2003 in Golden View Healthcare Center after a long illness. She was born in Laconia on June 2, 1909, the eighth of nine children of Frank and Rose (Girard) Clow.
Raised in Laconia, she graduated from Laconia High School and Plymouth Normal School (now known as Plymouth State College). She began a lengthy teaching career as a student teacher in Lincoln NH and later taught in Claremont, Tilton, Gilford and as a substitute teacher at St. John School in Laconia. For 15 years she taught the fifth grade at the Union-Sanborn School in Tilton.
Thelma was a founder and the first president of the Lakes Region Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the Laconia Women’s Club.
Her husband, Floyd B. Miller died in 1962. Mrs. Miller was a communicant of Our Lady of the Lakes Church.
Family members include a daughter, Michele Miller of Wonalancet NH; two sons, Clifford Miller of Windham NH and Guy “Cracker” Miller of Laconia; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. John (Charlotte) McLaughlin of Lakeport; nieces, nephews and cousins.
There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in Our Lady of the Lakes Church, 52 Washington St., Lakeport on Monday, April 28th at 11 AM. A reception immediately followed in the parish center.
Private interment was in Bayside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of NH, 10 Ferry St., Suite 419, Concord NH 03301 or the Lakes Region Scholarship Foundation, PO Box 7312, Gilford NH 03247-7312. Timothy C. Molan and David L. Furber were the funeral directors.
