Obituary

Alice Fitzgerald Towson, 94, of Ocilla, died Sunday, October 19, at Irwin County Hospital. Mrs. Towson was born May 10, 1914, in Wilcox County to the late James Alfred and Sarah Elizabeth “Sally” Parsons Fitzgerald. She lived in the Ocilla and Mystic communities most of her life. Along with her husband, Mrs. Towson was co-owner/operator of Farmers’ Cold Storage and worked as bookkeeper for their trucking company and their grocery store, Towson’s Grocery of Mystic. She was a former substitute school teacher and a member of the Ocilla Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in law: Nancy and Joe Alford of Milledgeville and Doris and Maxie Hasty of Stone Mountain; a daughter-in-law: Linda Yawn of Nashville; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jimmy Fitzgerald of Albany. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Earnest D. “Hamp” Towson; her son: E. Dean Towson; a daughter: Bonnie Towson; four brothers; and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 22, at the Ocilla Baptist Church with Dr. Jim Britt officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until the funeral hour at the church. Greg Hasty and Donna Woods, grandchildren of Mrs. Towson, will deliver eulogies. Interment will follow in the Ocilla Cemetery.
