Tewksbury - Agnes R. (McHugh) Fowler, age 91, the matriarch of a large well known family, died peacefully Saturday morning, October 18. She was the beloved wife of Murray C. Fowler, who died on August 28, 1996.
She was born in Charlestown, May 27, 1917, a daughter of the late Festus and Mary (McNamara) McHugh, and raised in Charlestown. She lived in Stoneham before moving to Tewksbury four decades ago.
She retired from the Tewksbury High School's cafeteria staff at the age of 76.
She was a former member of St. Patrick's Parish in Stoneham, and a communicant of St. William's in Tewksbury.
She is survived by eleven children and their spouses, Jane and James Hubbard of Reading, John and Judy Fowler of Stoneham, Susan Fowler and Roland Gilmore of Lynn, William and Gail Fowler of Maryland, Thomas Fowler and Linda Velardocchia of Stoneham, Richard and Mary Fowler of Townsend, Steven and Diane Fowler of Wakefield, Ellen and Jon Otash of Newmarket, NH, James and Jean Fowler of Stoneham, Anne and Craig Walfield of Stafford, NH, and Peter Fowler of Tewksbury; twenty three grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert McMillian of FL, John and Betty Fowler of Groton; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also grandmother of the late Steven Gialousis.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday, Oct. 22, in St. William's Church, Tewksbury. Burial was at the Cape Cod National Cemetery in Bourne. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memorial Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
