Augusta,GA- Shara Baker Overstreet departed this life on October 16, 2008 at home with family and close friends. Born in Atlanta, Georgia on June 21, 1949, she had lived in Augusta since 1971.
She had a lifelong passion for the visual arts, graduating from Mercer University with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts in 1971. She was a respected and accomplished interior designer having been published in numerous magazines, periodicals and books. During her career as an interior designer, she completed projects covering the entire southeast, including projects in Atlanta, Charlotte, Highlands and Sea Island and was a member of ASID. She served on the boards of The Morris Museum of Art, The Georgia Museum of Art, and Historic Augusta, Inc., playing an integral part in the interior restoration of the childhood home of Woodrow Wilson. She was also a member of the Junior League of Augusta and The Augusta Heritage Club.
She is survived by her husband, Judge J. Carlisle Overstreet, her son, Baker Overstreet of New York City, New York, her son James C. Overstreet, Jr. and his wife Kim and one granddaughter, Sarah Carlisle Overstreet, all of Augusta, Georgia, her sister, Cathy Harden and her husband Russ, of Outer Banks, North Carolina, nieces Kelly Harden of Charlotte, North Carolina, Carrie Harden of Raleigh, North Carolina and Amanda Shara Harden of Wilmington, North Carolina, brother-in-law John O. Overstreet Jr. and wife Ann of Augusta, Ga and nephews John O. Overstreet III of Atlanta, Georgia and David W. Overstreet of Charleston, South Carolina. She is preceded in death by her father Warren D. Baker and survived by her mother Dorothy A. Baker of Evans, Georgia.
There will be a memorial service at The Church of the Good Shepherd at 11:00 A.M on Saturday, October 19, 2008 with The Very Reverend Robert D. Fain officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following in the garden of the Church. Interment will be a private family gathering at Summerville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to University Health Care Foundation for the University Breast Cancer Center, 2100 Central Avenue, Suite D, Augusta, Georgia 30904.
