Obituary

LOWELL—Elizabeth M. (Wallace) Kew, 88 years old, loving mother and grandmother, longtime resident of Lowell, died Tuesday evening, October 14th, at D’Youville Senior Care, surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was the wife of the late Loring Russell Kew, Jr., who died in 1980.

She was born in England, on March 30, 1920, a daughter of the late Alexander and Alice (Kilgour) Wallace, and was educated in the Andover Public School System, graduating from Punchard High School, Class of 1938.

As a young girl she worked at the family restaurant in Andover. During World War II, she contributed to the war effort as a sworn police officer for the Remington Arms Factory and with the civil air defense for the Town of Andover. Later, she worked for many years as a buyer for Pollard’s and Lynch’s Department Stores, in Lowell.

She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed her hobbies including oil painting, gardening and cooking. She was intensely proud of her Scottish heritage.

Surviving her are a daughter and son-in-law: Susan and David Tousignant, of Lowell; two sons and daughters-in-law: Robert and Karen Kew, of Dracut; and Richard and Jean Kew, of Miller’s Place, NY; four grandchildren: Lauren Tousignant, Robert Kew, Jr.; William Kew and David Kew; a sister: Margaret Reilly, of Andover; a dear friend: Linda Elliott, of Dracut; several nieces and nephews, as well as numerous relatives in Scotland and Canada.

She was the mother of the late Loring Russell Kew, III.

Friends may call from 3 to 7 PM on Friday, October 17th, at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38). A funeral service to be held on Saturday, October 18th at 10 AM at the Chapel of the West Parish Cemetery, Andover. Burial to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to either the American Heart Association; 20 Speen Street; Framingham, MA 01701-4688 OR the Arthritis Foundation; 29 Crafts Street; Newton, MA 02158-1287.
