Augusta, GA---Mrs. Marie “Re” McMahon Kearns, 87, entered into rest on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at her residence.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, on Friday, October 17, 2008 at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church, with Reverend Gerald P. Regan as celebrant. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park.
Mrs. Kearns was an active member, of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Altar Guild and was instrumental in the organizing and opening of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic School. She was retired, from the Georgia Railroad Bank and Trust Company Credit Department and was a member of the St. Joseph Hospital Ladies Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Joseph Kearns II, her parents, John Raymond McMahon and Margaret Genevieve Gallagher McMahon, a brother, Raymond McMahon and a sister, Sister Mary Raymond, CSJ.
Survivors include 4 sons, Dennis J. Kearns, III, of Augusta, Michael A. Kearns, of North Myrtle Beach, SC, Kevin P. Kearns, of Augusta and Raymond. J. Kearns (Neil), of Atlanta, 2 daughters, Margaret Mary Kearns Matheis (Jerry) and Maureen Kearns Hardy (Gordon), all of Augusta, a sister, Sister Sarah McMahon, CSJ, of St. Louis, MO, 11 grandchildren, Elizabeth Kearns, Lisa Miller, Kara Kearns, Mariah Sellers, Emily Matheis, Lauren Hargrove, Ashley Gregory, Baxley Hardy, Laura Belle Kearns, Johanna Kearns and ReRe Kearns, 6 great grandchildren, 4 sisters in law, Retta Kearns Burke (Jack), Emily Kearns, Tink Kearns and Sister Anna Bridget, CSJ and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to say a special “Thank You”, to her caregivers Patty Usry and Trinity Hospice members Marie Killips, RN, Cindy Reimer, RN, Elizabeth Wright and Patricia Scoggins, RN.
A vigil for the deceased will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2008, at 6:00 pm at Platt's Crawford Avenue with Reverend Mark Van Alstine officiating. Visitation for family and friends will follow until 8:00 pm.
Pallbearers will be her nephews, Tony Kearns, Jimmy Garren, Paul Garren, Crane Garren, Larry Kearns and Mike McMahon
