Robert J. Smith of Bridgewater passed away suddenly on Oct. 12 at The Good Samaritan Hospital. He was age 61. Born in Brockton, Robert was a graduate of East Bridgewater Schools and earned an associate degree from Massasoit College. Robert was a US Air Force Veteran and served on Guam. He worked for Nynex as an executive and retired in 1996. He worked for over ten years with the Bridgewater Transfer Station. Robert enjoyed fishing and working with his hands as a "fixer upper". Robert is survived by his wife of 40 years, Linda L. (Devine) Smith of Bridgewater. Devoted father of Sean M. Smith of Bridgewater, Jason J. Smith of Wynantskill, NY, and Thomas A. Smith of Charlotte, NC. Proud grandfather of Tyler Joseph Smith. Robert is the son of Louise Lauzon of Middleboro and the late Louis Charles Smith. Brother of Linda Jeanne Johnson of Marston Mills and Elizabeth Anne Sorel of Lakeville. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends. A funeral service will be held on Thurs. Oct. 16 at 11:00am at the Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. (Rt. 18), Bridgewater. Interment with military honors at The Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
