TYNGSBORO - Ugo S. Pioccone, 83, a resident of Tyngsboro, and former longtime Burlington resident, died Friday October 10th at Fairhaven Healthcare Center in Lowell. He was the beloved husband of Rita M. (Tedesco) Pioccone to whom he was married for 58 years.
He was born in Italy on December 16, 1924, and immigrated as a child to the United States through Ellis Island. He was the son of the late Elisa (Traverso) (Pioccone) Corsi, and Biaggio Pioccone who passed away when Ugo was young. His mother was later remarried to Adolph Corsi, to whom Ugo was very close.
Mr. Pioccone was a graduate of St. John the Evangelist Grammar School and the Rindge Tech High School, class of 1943, both in Cambridge.
He served as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps during World War II from January of 1944 until June of 1946 in the Central Pacific Region.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed for many years by USCI in Billerica, first as a mechanical engineer, and then as a quality engineer. In his early years, he was employed for 3 years as a police officer for the town of Burlington.
He was a communicant of St. Catherine of Alexandria Roman Catholic Church in Westford, and he was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4978 in Burlington.
In his free time he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed sports, such as baseball, when in his younger years he played as a catcher, although his true passion was hockey and he was a very talented goalie when he was younger.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law; Ronald and Jacqueline "Jackie" Pioccone of Tyngsboro; two grandchildren Ronald Pioccone and Stephanie Pioccone, both of Tyngsboro; a sister-in-law Theresa Pioccone of Waltham; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Aldo Pioccone.
Friends may call at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT, on Tuesday from 4 until 8 PM. His funeral will be held from the funeral home on Wednesday at 9:30 AM, followed by his Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11 AM at St. Catherine Church in Westford.
