Obituary

William D. Nooth, Jr., 81, died December 29, 2001 at home after a long illness.

He was the husband of the late Annie J. (Hunt) Nooth, and son of the late William D. and Bessie E. (Joseph) Nooth.

Mr. Nooth was born in New Bedford and lived in New Bedford all of his life.

He was formerly employed by the City of New Bedford for 43 years until his retirement as Head Custodian at City Hall .

During World War II, Mr. Nooth served in the U.S. Army with the 366th Infantry Regiment, participating in the Battles and Campaigns of Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, Normandy, the Rhineland, Northern France, Southern France, North Apennines and the Po Valley, Air Offensive Europe and Air Combat Balkans. He was a recipient of the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign ribbon, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign ribbon, the Philippine Liberation ribbon, the Good Conduct medal and the World War II Victory medal.

He enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include 2 nieces, Brenda B. Wyche and Nancy A. Nooth, both of New Bedford; and 5 nephews, Wendell P. Nooth, Jr., of Mattapoisett, James F. Nooth of Louisville, KY, Joseph D. Nooth and Timothy E. Nooth, both of New Bedford, and Mark S. Nooth of Grafton.

He was the brother of the late Wendell P. Nooth and Geraldine E. Wyche.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New BedfordThursday, January 3rd at 11 AM.

Visiting hours Wednesday 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM.

Interment Oak Grove Cemetery.
