Obituary: Mary (Lopes) Enos
Taunton; Mary (Lopes) Enos, a resident of Taunton for most of her life and also of Norton, died suddenly on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Morton Hospital and Medical Center. She was 91 years of age.
She was the wife of the late James Enos. She was born in Norton, daughter of the late Bartholomew and Escolastica (Baptista) Lopes. Mrs. Enos was a long time resident of E. Water Street, Taunton. She worked for the Bellavance Co. in Attleboro for 25 years; also for the Copper Craft Co. and Taunton Mills. Mary also worked as a Nursing Assistant at the V.A. Hospital in Brockton for many years, until her retirement in 1971. She was a foster grandparent for “Head Start” in Taunton for 30 years as well, and was best known as Grandma Enos. She was honored at the State House in Boston for her work with Head Start. She belonged to St. Mary’s church.
Mary enjoyed dancing, knitting, crocheting, cooking, and macramé.
She is survived by 3 daughters; Barbara Beckett of Raynham, Marilyn (Pochie) Correia of Nantucket and Jean Enos DeBrito Moreira of Buzzard’s Bay. She also leaves 1 son, Benjamin (Bennie) Enos of Taunton; also 43 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, 58 great, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mary is also pre-deceased by 3 brothers; James Sr., Furtnato Sr., Lawrence Sr. (Larry) Lopes; by 2 sisters; Daminga Gonsales, Alice Fonseca; daughter Margaret Diak, also by 3 grandchildren; Michael, Jody, and Michelle Diak; also pre-deceased by 4 stepsons; John and Antonio Cardoza Barros, James (Jimmie) Jr., and Emanuel (Manny) Enos.
Her funeral will be held on Friday at 9:00 A.M. at the Taunton Funeral Home, 8 Crapo Street, off Tremont Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church at 10:00 A.M. Visiting hours are on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s cemetery.
