New Bedford-Naomi (Martins) Vieira aged 88 years of Fairhaven passed away on Thursday September 18th at St. Luke’s Hospital after a long period of declining health. She was the daughter of the late Joao O. and Maria (Gloria) Martins. She was the beloved wife of the late Gilbert P. Vieira,
Born in New Bedford, she lived the last 43 years of her life in Fairhaven MA, a town she dearly loved. She attended school in New Bedford. She was formerly employed as an inspector for Cornell-Dublier Electrical Corp. until 1970. She left after her cancer surgery.
She was a member of the American Bell Association, The Hummel Club and the Golden Age Club in Fairhaven where she enjoyed many pleasurable Wednesday afternoons playing bingo. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking, and was an avid reader. She will be greatly missed. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Fairhaven.
Survivors include her daughter Patricia Vieira and her companion Pauline Provencal of Fairhaven, her son Richard Costa and his wife Nancy of New Mexico and Tiverton RI. Two grandsons of Jeffrey Costa of Fall River, and Mark Costa and his wife Nancy of Somerset, two great-grandchildren Meaghan, and Will. Naomi was predeceased by her brother Manuel Martins and two sisters Conceicao Pires and Mary Louise Cordeiro.She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Vieira’s funeral will be Monday at Perry Funeral Home at 8:45 A.M. with a Mass of She is also survived by several nieces and Christian Burial to be celebrated at St Joseph Church Fairhaven, at 10:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation hours will be Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M.
