Obituary

Arthur Travis, 84, of Manchester died September 17, 2008 at Harborside Healthcare-Northwood Nursing Home in Bedford after a long illness.
Born in Johnston City, IL on June 26, 1924, he was the son of Arthur and Oda (Hawkins) Travis. He lived in Manchester and Bedford for many years and had spent winters in North Ft. Myers, FL in his retirement.
During World War II he served in the US Marine Corps at Guadalcanal in the South Pacific and participated in the V12 program for officers training at Dartmouth College.
Mr. Travis worked in sales at Auclair Transportation and New Penn Motor Express for many years.
He was a member of the American Legion Sweeney Post, the Catholic War Veterans and the trucking fraternity Delta Nu Alpha. He did much community service through the United Way and was a frequent blood donor to the American Red Cross.
He enjoyed spending time with his family at his home on Lake Winnepesaukee in Moultonborough.
IN HIS LIFE: The family includes his wife of 62 years, Theresa (LeBlanc) Travis of Manchester; four children, Teresa Joyce and her husband, Patrick Sr. and Gary Travis all of Manchester, Kevin Travis and his wife, Sharon of Bedford and Karen Rogers and her husband, William of Manchester; seven grandchildren, Patrick Joyce Jr. and his wife, Lisa, Lori Meservey and her husband, Paul, Brendan Joyce, Kelly Rogers, Kristen Roy and her husband, Jeremy, Matthew Rogers and Holly Travis; three great grandchildren, Molly Meservey, Erin Joyce and Shannon Joyce; nieces and nephews.
SERVICES: There are no calling hours. A memorial mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 am. at Blessed Sacrament Church, 14 Elm St., Manchester. Private burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family.
