Obituary

SALEM: Louis Tamilio, 78, died Monday, September 15, 2008 in the Radius Healthcare in Danvers following an extended illness.
Born in Salem on October 10, 1929, he was the son of the late John Tamilio, Sr. and Mary (Fillicio) Tamilio. He was a lifelong resident of Salem and a graduate of Salem public schools. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, where he was a Golden Glove Boxer. He was honorably discharged in April of 1953.
Louis was employed in the leather industry at the former Flynn Tanning Company in Salem for many years. He enjoyed fishing and bowling and was a member of the Ward 2 Social Club in Salem.
He is survived by three sisters, Ann Pacelli of Cambridge, Florence Agrella of Beverly and Rachel and her husband, Donald Cross of Danvers, two brothers, John, Jr. and his wife, Marion Tamilio and Victor and his wife, Roberta Tamilio all of Beverly, three sisters-in-law, Eleanor Tamilio of Danvers, Kathleen Tamilio of Beverly and Eleanor Arrington of Wells, ME, among the many nieces and nephews is a special nephew and caregiver, Lawrence Tamilio of Beverly and Louis’ longtime companion, Barbara Desjardins of Salem. He was also predeceased by three brothers, Robert, James and Anthony Tamilio.
His funeral services will be held on Friday in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street, Beverly at 1 p.m. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday evening from 4 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the PACE Program, 100 Cummings Center, Suite 109D, Beverly, MA 01915. Interment will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
