George Alves, age 98, of Somerset. Passed away Sep. 13, 2008. Husband of the late Helen “Jerri” (Sakell) Alves. Born in Rehoboth, the son of the late Joseph & Mary (Magan) Alves. Mr. Alves was a resident of Swansea and the North End of Fall River, prior to moving to Somerset in 1970. In his youth he was active in baseball and hockey. Prior to retiring in 1973, Mr. Alves was a Captain from the U.S. Naval Station Fire Department, Newport, RI. He was a parishioner of St. Thomas More Church.
He is survived by a son: Leonard “Lenny” G. Alves & wife Charlotte of Florida. 2 grandsons: Michael Alves & Michelle Cardinal of Fall River and William Alves of New York. 1 great granddaughter: Brigette Cardinal Alves. His companion: Vivianne De Meo of Somerset & a dear friend: Raymond O’Connell. He was the brother of the late Mae Crowe.
Private arrangements are under the direction of the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME 1521 N. Main St. Fall River. Interment will be private. At the family’s request, there will be no visitation and kindly omit flowers.
