Obituary

John J. O’Melia of Stoneham passed away on Friday, September 12, 2008 at his home. He was 76 years of age.

Born and raised in Stoneham, John was the son of the late Thomas O’Melia and Minne (MacDonald) O’Melia. John was a warm and caring son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be sadly missed.

John was a graduate of Stoneham High School class of 1950. John was retired from the Water Department, Town of Stoneham.,

During the Korean War, John proudly defended our freedom by serving in the United States Army.

John was the beloved husband of Rita (Gallella) O’Melia. He was the devoted father of Michael O’Melia of Burlington, Joseph O’Melia and his wife Laura of Stoneham and John W. O’Melia and his wife Rebekka of Methuen. John was the cherished grandfather of Colleen, Julie, Mary-Rose and Merideth. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM Monday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass celebrating John’s life in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St. Stoneham at 10am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the family on Sunday from 2-6 pm. Parking attendants will be available.
