Obituary

John P. Tobin, longtime resident of Hanson, died Sept. 11, after a seven month battle with lung cancer at age 71. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 1957; he went on to join the State Police in 1960 to provide honest and faithful service for twenty years retiring as a Captain. He was very proud and devoted to the job and to the people he worked with. After retiring from the State Police he spent twenty years with the Raytheon Company. His passion was spending time with his wife Marjorie, his children John P. Tobin Jr. of Hanson, Eileen Comeau of Halifax and Christopher Smith of Westford and especially with his grandchildren Jack, Marjorie, Markie, Jay, Olivia and Lauren. He was devoted to his family and was a very loving and generous man. He also enjoyed reading, gardening and spending time outdoors. He was the son of Retired Whitman Chief of Police Charles L. Tobin and Katherine, he leaves behind brother Charles Tobin of Dennisport, brother Richard Tobin (deceased) of Ocala, Fl., sister Marie Makein of Plymouth and brother William Tobin of Concord. He will be deeply missed and remembered by his family and all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Hanson Public Library, 132 Maquan St. Hanson, MA. Visiting hours will be held in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, Sunday, September 14th, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. His funeral Mass will be held Monday September 15th at 10 a.m. in The Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Internment will follow in the St. James Cemetery, Whitman.
