Ulah Margurite Flynn Atkinson

McCormick, SC – Mrs. Ulah Margurite Flynn Atkinson, 88, devoted wife of the late C/WO Luther Delmus Atkinson, entered into eternal rest on Monday, September 8, 2008, at the Savannah Heights Living Center in McCormick, SC.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at Platt’s Funeral Home Crawford Avenue Chapel with the Dr. Michael Ruffin officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mrs. Atkinson, a native of Pender County, NC, daughter of the late George Franklin Flynn and Alice Elizabeth Moore Flynn, had made her home in Augusta, GA for most of her adult life, meshed with military relocations in the early years of her marriage. She was deeply devoted to being a homemaker, a wonderful mother to her children, and a loving wife to her husband. She loved to help others, young and old, in any way she could. She was a member of The Hill Baptist Church, belonged to the Faith Seekers Sunday School Class, the Flossie Joiner WMU Circle, and had taught Sunday School and Training Union. Mrs. Atkinson was a Den Mother of Cub Scouts and a Brownie Scout leader for many years. She retired from Andress Nursing Home as an Occupational Therapist. She was also a member of The Eastern Star in Augusta. The family would like to thank the staff of Savannah Heights Living Center for the years of loving and compassionate care they showed on Mrs. Atkinson. A very special Thank You to the members of The Hill Baptist Church family who never forgot her !

Survivors include her daughter, Margurite (Peggy) Atkinson Gilmore and her husband Forrest C. Gilmore of McCormick, SC; her “Chosen” daughter, Truellen Wallace Baker and her husband Victor Harold Baker, Jr. of Augusta, GA; one daughter in law, Marcia Hope Goodman Atkinson of Lenexia, KS; four sisters, Beulah Blake of Riegelwood, NC, Melba Lennon of Bolton, NC, Letha Huffman and her husband Bob of Clemons, NC, and Alice Boykin of Camden, SC; two sisters in law, Catherine Flynn of Riegelwood, NC, and Helene Flynn of Delco, NC; two brothers, Miles Flynn and his wife Mary of Riegelwood, NC, and Floyd Flynn and his wife, Ila Mae of Reigelwood, NC; 3 grandsons, William Luther Atkinson of Buffalo, MI, John Spencer Atkinson of St. Petersburg, FL, and Forrest Gregory Gilmore and his wife Melissa of Chevy Chase, MD; two “Chosen” grandchildren, Victor Baker, III and his wife Jennifer of Augusta, GA, and Julia Baker Huster and her husband Steve of Newnan, GA; six great grandchildren, Claire Elizabeth Gilmore, Alec Gregory Gilmore, and Jack Hilton Gilmore all of Lawrenceville, GA, Apple Melissa Gilmore, Henry Forrest Gilmore, and Holiday Melissa Gilmore all of Chevy Chase, MD. She loved and delighted in 27 nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Atkinson was preceded in death by three sons, Infants Franklin Jones Atkinson and Luther D. Atkinson, Jr., and Robert “Bob” Jerry Atkinson; one infant sister, Lela Flynn; and two brothers, Curtis Flynn and Charles Flynn

Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Faith Seekers Sunday School Class.

The family will receive friends the day of the service, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at Platt’s Funeral Home Crawford Avenue Chapel.
