Obituary

Springfield- Josephine P. (Povilaitis) Thompson, 85, of Springfield, died Wednesday, April 2, in Bay State Medical Center, Springfield.

Her husband, Carl Thompson, died in 1966. She leaves a sister, Dorothy A. Robinson of Worcester; a nephew, John Robinson of Somerville; a niece, Janet Raftery of Carlisle; three grandnieces, Kathleen Erickson of Boxborough, Karen Raftery of Boston, and Kristen Bowen of Hyde Park, Vermont. She was born in Worcester, daughter of John and Anna (Freeman) Povilaitis, and later moved to Stamford, Connecticut, before moving to Springfield many years ago. She graduated from Commerce High School, Worcester.

Mrs. Thompson was a tax auditor for the Internal Revenue Service, Springfield, for many years, before retiring.

She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Parish, Springfield, and the National Secretaries Association. She was named as National Secretary of the year at one time.

The funeral will be held Saturday, April 5, from Dirsa-Morin Funeral Home, 298 Grafton Street (www.worcesterfuneral.com), Worcester, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Stephen's Church, 357 Grafton Street, Worcester. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Cross Parish, 221 Plumtree Road, Springfield, MA 01118.
