Dorothy (Jackson) Allen, 84, of New Bedford died Thursday September 4, 2008 at home of natural causes. She was the wife of the late Alphonso Frederick Allen.
Born in Evergreen, Ohio, the daughter of the late John and Edith (Lowery) Jackson, she was raised by the late Ruth Harris Jackson Wallace. She lived in Boston for many years before moving to New Bedford in 1974.
Mrs. Allen and her late husband were the proprietors of Fred and Dorothy's Toys and Play Things.
She was a member of the Order of Easter Star Prince Hall in Boston.
Survivors include four sons, Fred Allen of Boston, Kenneth Allen of Maine, David Allen and Carlton Allen, both of New Bedford; three daughters, Norissa Powell of Brockton, Doris Allen and Lisa Allen, both of New Bedford; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren.
She was the mother of the late Wayne and Lanita Allen and the sister of the late Jerry Johnson.
