Regina M. (Monteiro) Lopes, 94, of New Bedford died September 3, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness.
She was the wife of the late Jose M. Lopes.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the daughter of the late Honorio and Olimpia (Almeida) Monteiro, she has lived in New Bedford for the last 42 years.
Mrs. Lopes was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, arts and crafts and playing the accordion.
Survivors include a daughter, Dr. Maria Olimpia Andrade of Atlanta, GA; 3 sons, Ramiro Lopes and his wife Autilia of East Providence, Manuel Lopes and his wife Helena of Brockton and Frank Lopes of New Bedford; 2 step-daughters, Lucilia Gomes of Cape Verde and Joana Gonsalves of Pawtucket; a step-son, Frank Andrade of New Bedford; a brother, Frank Monteiro of Dartmouth; a sister, Benvinda Resendes of New Bedford; 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Antonio Monteiro, Oliver Monteiro and Alvaro Monteiro.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford Saturday, September 6th at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours Friday, September 5th from 4-8 PM.
