Obituary

Whitman- Alice M. (Donnelly) Ord 87 died Sunday August 31st. She was the loving wife of the late Rodney M. Ord, Sr.

Born in Boston she was the beloved daughter of the late J. Joseph and Alice M. (Fallon) Donnelly.

Mrs. Ord was a 48 year resident of Abington and an active member of the community there, before her move to Whitman in 1996. She was a past president of the Abington VFW Auxiliary 5737, and corresponding secretary for the Abington Senior Citizens Assoc. In her earlier years she was active in Girl Scouts, Campfire Girls, Cub Scouts and a CCD Teacher at St. Bridgets School for twelve years.

She had previously lived in Quincy and was employed by the US Navy Department of Hull-Engineering at both the Fore River and Hingham Shipyards. In more recent years she was employed at the Brockton Hospital Radiology Department until her retirement. She later returned to the hospital as a volunteer and then as a night employee in the hospital gift shop.

She is survived by her five children; Rodney M. Ord, Jr. of Marshfield, Maureen C. Perkins of Halifax, James C. Ord of Middleboro, Alice E. Ord of Whitman, and Robert W. Ord of Halifax, 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her companion and dear friend Joseph Iacobucci. She was the sister of the late Marie Quirk, Catherine Mitchell, and John and Joseph Donnelly.

Her services will be held Thursday September 4th at 8:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 9 AM in the St. Bridget Church, Abington. Burial will follow in the St. Patrick Cemetery, Rockland. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday September 3rd from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to the American Lung Association of MA, 460 Trotten Pond Rd. – Suite 400, Waltham, MA 02451.
