Shirley Stokes Taylor, 82, of Summerville, SC, widow of Gherman Andrew Taylor, Jr., passed away Sunday, August 31, 2008 at her residence.
A memorial service for Mrs. Taylor will be Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at 11 o’clock at Spell Chapel at Bethany United Methodist Church, Summerville, SC. Another memorial service will be held later in Greenville, NC prior to entombment.
Mrs. Taylor was born July 29, 1926, in Pitt County, North Carolina, daughter of the late Horace W. Stokes and Leona Mills Stokes. She was a loving mother and a wonderful friend. She was an avid golfer. She enjoyed being a volunteer at Trident Medical Center and the Second Chance Store in Summerville. She especially enjoyed being part of the Sue Knight Sunday School at Bethany United Methodist Church. She and her friends enjoyed the fellowship and closeness their faith provided.

Survivors include one daughter; Jo T. Hopkins and her husband Arni of Columbia, NC and one son; Gherman Andrew “Drew” Taylor, III and his wife Karla of North Charleston, SC and one brother Ben Stokes and his wife Diane of Castalia, NC. She was predeceased by her husband, and three brothers; Eugene Stokes, Earl Stokes and Loyd Stokes.
