Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Stanley J. Tarr, Jr., 63, of 38-1/2R Millett Street died Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at his residence following a brief battle with cancer. He was the husband of the late Nancy E. (Babcock) Tarr, who died in June of 2005.
Born in Gloucester on May 5, 1945, he was the son of the late Stanley J. and Madeline O. (Silva) Tarr. He was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and a graduate of the Gloucester High School class of 1963, where he played football and currently holds the school record for the javelin.
Stan worked in both construction and along the Gloucester waterfront for many years, as well as being a fisherman at different points in his life. He was also employed by Gorton’s of Gloucester for seventeen years.
An avid sports fan and player, he enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox and N.E. Patriots, but loved playing flag football for the Bulls for ten years. Stan was also longtime member of the Cape Ann Chapter No. 1471 Loyal Order of Moose. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his son, Michael S. Tarr, and his fiancée, Robin Seibert, three stepdaughters, Doreen, wife of Steve LaCourt, Maureen, wife of Rick Gallant and Kathleen Skoniecki, six grandchildren, Michayla and Samantha Tarr, Danielle Hopkins, Marc Bona, Kristy and Ricky Gallant, and a great-grandson, Caleb DeCoste. He was also predeceased by his son, James Menicocci and his grandson, Eddie Hopkins.
His funeral service will be held on Tuesday morning in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 10 a.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9 – 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Gloucester Fishermen Athletic Assoc., P. O. Box 3010, Gloucester, MA 01931. Interment will be held in the Seaside Cemetery.
