Mrs. Joan M. Zona, age 75, died Tuesday evening, August 19, 2008 at home after a lengthy illness. Born in Beverly, Joan was the loving daughter of the late Marion K. (Meuse) & John Dixon.
Joan has been a Woburn resident since August of 1961, formerly of Hamilton, where she was raised and educated. Joan enjoyed Horseback riding and playing tennis while growing up on the North Shore. She was a Hamilton High School graduate with the class of 1950. She then went on to graduated from the Burdett School in Beverly. After graduation, she worked for United Shoe of Beverly, where she was a secretary. After staying home and raising her family, Joan then worked as a nurse's aide at the Choate Hospital in Woburn.
Joan was a member of the St. Paul's Church Choir of Hamilton and later on the St. Joseph's Woman's club here in Woburn. After losing her beloved son Michael in 1974, she helped establish the Friends of the Jimmy Fund-Boston which then went on to be the Ronald McDonald House. Joan most enjoyed her family and her loving grandchildren.
She was the beloved wife of Patsy Zona of Woburn. Devoted mother of Ronald F. Zona of Norwood, Anne M. County of Arlington, John J. Zona of Medford and the late Michael A. Zona. Loving grandmother of Michael L. Zona, Anthony J. Zona, and Erica A. County.
Funeral from the McLaughlin-Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN, Monday, at 10 AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 100 Washington St. Woburn at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting Hours Sunday 5 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
