Obituary

Julian Brown Abel, 87, of Enigma died Sunday, August 17, 2008, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 19, 2008, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Pete Jones and Rev. Marvin Williams will officiate with burial to follow in Enigma Cemetery. Jeff Abell, John Abell, Lowell Abel, Brian Abell, Scott Robinson and Ron Mathis will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 18, 2008, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mr. Abel was born on April 23, 1921 in Berrien County and was the son of Lowell Dawson Abell and Nelsie Charlotte Pickard Abell, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Billy Karen Abel; two brothers, Herbert Abel and James Abell; and one sister, Nell Dawson Abell Mathis. He was retired from the United States Postal Service and a member of the Congregational Christian Church in Enigma. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was a German prisoner-of-war for eleven months. He was a lifelong resident of Enigma.

Mr. Abel is survived by his wife, Edna Whitfield Abel of Enigma; one brother, Paul Abell of Nokomis, Florida; three sisters, Mattie Abell Robinson of Adel, Ruth Abell Phagan of Van Buren, Arkansas, and Ann Abell Mayfield of Keystone Heights, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews, who were loved as grandchildren.
