EILEEN (MEANEY) ENGDAHL, a Hingham resident for over 50 years, died on Saturday, Aug. 16th, 2008 at the Queen Anne Nursing Home in Hingham. She was 86. Mrs. Engdahl was born in Braintree and was a graduate of Braintree High School. During World War II, she served with the United States Coast Guard and was also a member of the Naval Auxiliary. Mrs. Engdahl was an active volunteer in Hingham Civic affairs and at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. Since coming to Hingham, she was a devoted communicant and eucharistic minister at the Church of the Resurrection.
She was the wife of the late George E. Engdahl, Sr. and mother of Rick Engdahl of Hingham, Christine Tennihan and her husband Robert of West Bridgewater, Gary Engdahl and his wife Gwen of Weymouth, Jon Engdahl of San Francisco, Patti Leonard and her husband Robert of Greensboro, NC and the late George Engdahl, Jr. Sister of Francis X. Meaney of Chatham, John Meaney of Santa Barbara, CA and the late Daniel, Edward, Robert Meaney and Mary Bizzazero. Also survived by 12 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Aug. 21st at 10 AM at the Church of the Resurrection, 1057 Main St. (Rt. 228), Hingham.
Friends may visit at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham on Wednesday from 4-8 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Heart Asso., 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or to the Neely House at Tufts Medical Center, 750 Washington St., NEMC # 0716, Boston, MA 02111. The interment is to be private.
