Mary G. Johnson, 95, of Hampstead, NH, died Monday, August 11, 2008 at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood, NH. Mrs. Johnson was born June 17, 1913 in Nashua, NH, the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth (Sowolich) Wolen. She attended Nashua Public Schools, graduating from Nashua High School in 1932 and later from the Nashua Business College. Mrs. Johnson worked at the Nashua Manufacturing Co. invoice office for some time. She had also been employed as an office worker at Highland Oil Co., Allston, MA and as Secretary to the President at Brandeis University.
She married John Norman Johnson of Weston, MA. After his return from service in the US Air Force, they lived several years in Boston followed by Lexington, MA for a number of years. After her husband passed away in 1976, she moved to Hampstead, NH. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Hampstead Congregational Church, as well as the Friends of the Library and the Senior Friends at Parkland Medical Center. For several years she volunteered at the Hampstead Hospital.
She is survived by her two sisters, Virginia Koughan of Santa Monica, CA and Bertha Kazlauskas of Nashua, several nieces and nephews including her niece Mrs. Annamarie Collins and her husband Earl of Georgetown, MA.
There are no calling hours. Following cremation, a private burial was held at the Linwood Cemetery in Weston, MA. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry is handling the arrangements.
