Beloved husband of 59 years to Carol (Lacy) Nagle originally from Brookline and father of eight: Martha Nagle of Needham, John Nagle and wife Barbara of Windham NH, Carol Hanson and husband Robert of Norwood, Charles Nagle of Dover, Janet Polo and husband William of Newton, Russell Nagle Jr. and wife Veronica of Lancaster, Robert Nagle and wife Judith of Newton, Vincent Nagle and wife Sandra of Melrose.
He was the proud grandfather of 20, a proud great grandfather, and uncle to 37 nieces and nephews.
He is the son of the late John Joseph and Aline (Fraser) of Brookline, MA and brother of the late, Ruth Nagle, John Nagle III, Priscilla Healey and Vincent Nagle.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in The Holy Name Church, WEST ROXBURY on Saturday August 16 at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours in The Robert J. Lawler & Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 Centre St. WEST ROXBURY on Thursday from 4:00 – 8:00 PM and Friday 4:00 – 8:00 PM. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery.
Russell graduated from Brookline High School in 1945 and Boston College in 1949.
Following the death of both his older brothers in 1944, during WWII, and the sudden death of his father in 1946, he was required to take over the family business at the age of 19. While serving as President of the John Nagle Co., he continued at BC and earned his business degree.
The John Nagle Co, a wholesale seafood distributor established in 1887 by his grandfather, continues today as one of the oldest family businesses in Boston spanning five generations and 121 years.
Russell was a leader and innovator of countless changes in the seafood industry, and served as directors of the Commonwealth Cold Storage and New England Fish Exchange. He also served as Treasurer of the West Roxbury Boys Club.
