Ruth W. O'Donnell, age 85, died, Saturday Aug. 9, 2008, in Burlington at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Winchester, MA, Ruth was the beloved daughter of the late Mary Agnes (Kelley) & John P. O'Donnell.
Ruth lived in Acton for most of her life, formerly of East Woburn. She attended Woburn High School and graduated with the class of 1940. After High School, Ruth graduated from the Katherine Gibbs School. Ruth then went on to work for 51 years for Nuclear Metals, Inc. of Concord, MA. She was an administrative assistant and was one of the first employees of Massachusetts Institute of Technology metallurgical projects. At that time the company was working on metallurgical contributions to the Manhattan Project. The company also worked on photocopy, ordinance and gas turbine engine industries. She loved her work, the employees and the company she worked for. She was in touch with former coworkers up until her death. She retired in 1992. Ruth also had a special place in her heart for the Acton senior center and enjoyed their activities and its fellow members.
Ruth was the sister of the late John O’Donnell, Mary R. Corcoran and Bernice Cowie. Loving aunt to 13 nieces & nephews, many grand nieces & nephews and several great nieces & nephews.
Funeral from the McLaughlin-Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN, Friday August 15 at 9 AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 100 Washington St. Woburn at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday 4 thru 7. Services will conclude with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.
