Obituary

Judge Tommy W. Ash, 61, of Fitzgerald, Georgia died Sunday, August 10, 2008 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 10 A.M. Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Ben Hill County with Rev. Greg Carroll and Rev. Michael Slaven officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Judge Ash was born May 18, 1947 in Ben Hill County to the late W. Cecil and Elizabeth Roberts Ash. He lived in the community all of his life. He was a 1965 graduate of Fitzgerald High School and a graduate of Southern Technical Institute with a Civil Engineering and Land Surveying degree. Judge Ash was Probate Judge for Ben Hill County for eleven years and former owner/operator of Ash Surveying & Construction Company. He was former Ben Hill County Surveyor, elected to serve for several terms. Judge Ash was an active member, deacon, song leader and former adult Sunday school teacher of Bethlehem Baptist Church and also a member of Gideons International. Judge Ash enjoyed raising cattle, farming and real estate development.

He is survived by his wife, Celia Luke Ash of Fitzgerald; Sons and daughter-in-law. Caleb Ash and Sam & Dru Ash all of Fitzgerald; granddaughter, Ela Grace Ash of Fitzgerald; brother & sister-in-law, Robby & Wanda Ash of Fitzgerald; cousin and his wife, Bobby & Jacquelyn Roberts of Fitzgerald as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Harriett Frances Newell.
