Salem: Edward T. Flot age 77 of Salem, died Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at the NSMC / Salem Hospital following a long illness. He was the husband of Mary A. (Nee) Flot with whom he shared 51 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Boston, he was the son of the late Louis A. and Lillian M. (Robicheau) Flot. Eddie was a graduate of East Boston High and in 1950 entered a monastery in Indiana while continuing his education in theological studies. Prior to taking final vows, he decided to leave the monastic order in 1955 and returned to Boston. For the next 14 years, he worked as a manager for Brigham’s Ice Cream at several of the company’s locations.
Married to Mary in 1957 the couple moved to Salem in 1965. Ed left Brigham’s in 1967 to begin working for Cressey & Dockham Co. as a shipper and dispatcher where he remained until his retirement in 1990.
Always a devoted Catholic, Ed taught religious education at St. John the Baptist Parish in E. Boston. Over the years, he made hundreds of rosary beads for distribution in hospitals, nursing homes, hospice facilities and for missionaries. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, the Legion of Mary and the Irish Temperance League. He was currently a member of the Immaculate Conception Parish of Salem.
Ed is survived by a son, Joseph A.P. Flot and his wife Mary Toler Flot of Salem, a sister, Lillian Bostrom of E. Boston, 2 brothers: Ronald Flot and his wife Penny of Southborough, Robert Flot and his wife Marjorie of Revere, a granddaughter Ceili of Salem and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Friday, August 8, 2008 at 10 am at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St., [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem, followed by his funeral mass in the Immaculate Conception Church, Hawthorne Blvd., Salem at 11 am.
