Obituary

Leonis D. Tomberlin, 89, of Mystic died Monday, August 4 at the Irwin County Hospital in Ocilla.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, August 7, 2008 at Mystic Baptist Church with Rev. Ike Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in Mystic Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Mrs. Tomberlin was born October 8, 1918 in Telfair County to the late Watson and Maggie Powell Davis. She lived in the Mystic community for the past fifty years. Mrs. Tomberlin was a former employee of the Monarch Company, H.R. Kaminsky & Sons, Irwin Manufacturing and a former Nurse’s Assistant at the Irwin County Hospital. She attended the nursing program at Ben Hill-Irwin Technical School and was a former member of the Home Demonstration Club. Mrs. Tomberlin was the oldest member of Mystic Baptist Church, joining in 1933.

She is survived by a daughter, Lillian Walker of Moreland; son and daughter-in-law, John T. & Helen Tomberlin of Mystic; daughter-in-law, Hilda Tomberlin of Germany; 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; sisters, Omie Crowe of Perry and Lurene Parrish of Ocilla; brothers and sisters-in-law, Eschol & Wylene Davis of Wray, Strozier & Ann Davis of Irwinville and Ralph & Sue Davis of Owensboro, KY; sisters-in-law, Martha Wall of New Whiteland, IN and Roberta Lovett of Warner Robins. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oathel Tomberlin, son, Jerry L. Tomberlin and a brother, Clarence Davis.
