WORCESTER-Ioannis V. Vogiatzis, 76, of Worcester, died Sunday, August 3rd in Holy Trinity Nursing Center. His wife, of 44 years Eleni (Ambatzidis) Vogiatzis, died in 2003. He leaves a son, William Vogiatzis and his wife Rebecca of Williamston, NC; a daughter, Artemis Vasiliadis and her husband Nicholas of Hardwick, VT; a brother, Anastasios Vogiatzis and his wife Eleni of Southport, NC; a sister, Dimitra Savvidis and her husband George of Worcester; four grandchildren, Rafailia Vogiatzis of Williamston, NC, Vasilios, Maria and Dimitrios Vasiliadis of Hardwick, VT; a brother-in-law, Athanasios Hatzopoulos of Worcester; a sister-in-law, Eleni Vogiatzis of New Bern, NC; and many nephews and nieces. A brother, Dimitrios Vogiatzis and a sister, Maria Hatzopoulos predeceased him.
He was born in Hrisohorafa, Serres, Greece, the son of Vasilios and Ekatreni (Philipidis) Vogiatzis and came to Worcester in 1977. He was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral and Cultural Center Hrisohorafiton Alexander the Great. He enjoyed entertaining people with his accordion and playing the piano and singing for the residents of Holy Trinity. Mr. Vogiatzis was very social, enjoyed being with people and especially time spent with his family and grandchildren.
The funeral is Thursday, August 7th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a service at 10:00 A.M. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 6th in the funeral home.
