Mary R. (McLaughlin) O'Brien, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Friday August 1, 2008 at The Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home in Chelsea following a lengthy illness. She was 86 years old.
Mary was born in Boston and grew up in Charlestown where she attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1940. She was a homemaker most of her life while taking care of her husband and 2 children.
Mary is the beloved wife of the late Joseph M. O'Brien. She is the devoted mother of Neil O'Brien of Charlestown and Susan O'Brien of Charlestown. She is the loving grandmother of Sean and Michael O'Brien and great-grandmother of Kaleigh and Margaret O'Brien and Mackenzie Hughes. She is the beloved daughter of the late Michael and Annie (Dolan) McLaughlin. She is the beloved sister of Thomas "Toddy" McLaughlin of Charlestown, the late Sr. Lorraine McLaughlin C.S.J., Willie, Francis, Alfred and John McLaughlin.
Mary's Funeral will be held on Tuesday August 5, 2008 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be on Monday August 4, 2008 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
